Kintsugi is the practice of repairing broken pottery with lacquer and gold - the philosophy being that the breakage and the repair are something to be celebrated rather than disguised.
Many women transition through body changes for many reasons and don’t always feel at home in their bodies.
This piece aims to show all women that the journey is what makes us who we are today, and I want you to know that you’re NOT broken, you are beautiful.
She is painted white to imply porcelain, in that its fragility makes it even more beautiful, and the textured background reflects the darkness travelled through.
The cracks are filled with 24ct gold leaf.
18.5” x 24.4” mixed media on recycled backing board - including 20ct gold leaf.
